Nora Stuart's scholarship to Tufts that put her on the path to becoming a medical specialist was a step forward. Being hit by a car and learning that her boyfriend hit on another doctor when he thought she was dying was two steps back. She decides to go back home, but the community that she left 15 years ago does not receive her with open arms. Everyone she bumps into accuses her of something that happened on Scupper Island some time ago. Her mother has always been distant. Her sister is in jail.
