Description
For centuries, the loud, beautiful parrots of Puerto Rico and the island's inhabitants searched for food, survived hurricanes, took care of their young, and protected their homes. Things began to change, and, in 1967, only 24 parrots lived in the wild. Luckily, the birds were saved from extinction and are thriving once again. The history of the parrots is closely linked to the history of the island and its people. The texture in the collage illustrations makes the parrots come to life.
