In present-day New York, magic is practically nonexistent. The few people who still practice it, known as the Mageus, are forced to live in the shadows. Any Mageus who enter Manhattan are trapped by the Brink and risk losing their powers and their lives. Esta is a talented thief who was raised to steal artifacts from the Order that created the Brink. She has the ability to go back in time and steal these items without being detected. She must travel to the beginning of the 1900s in order to get her hands on a very important book that contains the Order's secrets. Old New York is a very dangerous place ruled by gangs and secret societies where nothing is as it seems. In order to save her future, Esta may have to betray everyone in her past.
