Luz is lost. Her son has disappeared. After recently arriving in Los Angeles, he is resentful, hostile, and vulnerable. She needs to find him, but she cannot go to the authorities because she is undocumented. Nadia cannot escape the nightmare that made her flee Mexico. Her life is in danger from cartel hitmen and not even alcohol can make her forget. Ostelinda knows she must do anything to escape the sweat shop.
