Description
This award-winning novel introduces readers to the Aborigine culture of Australia. The N'Wone, or water women, are vital to surviving life in the desert. They can hear everything, including the flapping wings of the White-Billed Crows or the whisper of a stream underground. Nanga, the daughter of the last N'Wone, must take over her mother's role, but she is only eight years old. Nanga envies her brother, who does not have to save her people. The well water is becoming salty and is drying up. Only a N'Wone can find a solution.
